To showcase the breadth of UTHealth Houston and the university’s community initiatives, Reach Out and Read Texas, a literacy enrichment program led by the Children’s Learning Institute at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, is listed as a recipient for donations on the Houston Half Marathon & 10K’s website. This opportunity is part of the UTHealth Houston title sponsorship for the Houston Half later this fall.
“Reach Out and Read Texas recognizes that reading together, storytelling, singing, and developing cozy daily routines help forge a lasting, meaningful connection between caregiver and child — they create moments that matter,” said Jocelyn McConnell, MEd, director for Reach Out and Read Texas. “We are delighted for this recognition and support of families served by UTHealth Houston!”
UT Physicians pediatric patients benefit from Reach Out and Read Texas. Children ages 6 months to 5 years old receive a new book during a well-child exam to take home. Books are available in multiple languages. UTHealth Houston has been a part of the national Reach Out and Read program since 1999.

In addition to books handed out in UT Physicians clinics, Reach Out and Read Texas provided more than 275,000 books to children in the state.
Registration Still Open
It is not too late to register for the Houston Half Marathon & 10K. Register at this site and view the course maps. Participants in the half marathon should arrive at the course by 6:30 a.m. to be ready for the 7:00 a.m. start time; 10K run participants should arrive at the course by 7:00 a.m. to prepare for the 7:30 a.m. start time.
