Brain, Behavior, and Injury Outcomes Program

This multidisciplinary program of research directed by Dr. Ewing-Cobbs includes longitudinal natural history studies as well as clinical trials examining a variety of outcomes in children and adults with acquired or developmental conditions that affect brain development and/or function.
In injury populations, natural history projects involved assessment of cognitive, psychological health, and structural neuroimaging outcomes following traumatic brain injury in infants, children, adolescents, and adults. Recent projects examine stress reactivity and regulation in children with injuries and their relation to brain microstructure. Our program also emphasizes providing outcome assessment for clinical trials that examine efficacy of autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell therapy to enhance recovery of pediatric and adult traumatic brain injury patients, interventions for children with combined attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and reading difficulty, and nutritional supplementation to reduce sepsis, enhance gut bioma, and improve developmental outcomes in premature infants.
