Advancing AERO with Innovative, Aligned Systems and Diverse Community Settings
We want to explore how a team of fully trained adult instructional aides can work alongside a cadre of high school students to deliver the Accelerated Early Reading Outcomes (AERO) reading intervention to early elementary students.
The primary objective is to implement the AERO program at select YES Prep campuses using both highly trained adult tutors and high school students. In the first year, the focus will be on refining the tutoring model with adult AERO tutors. In the second and third years, interested high school students will be trained and introduced as AERO tutor employees, working under the guidance and supervision of adult tutors.
In addition, we will also explore two other innovations with AERO. First, is a summer tutoring experience at Yellowstone Academy that allows teens to explore education careers. Second, is uses of artificial intelligence (AI) to provide more efficient feedback to reading educators on qualities of their instruction. Collectively, these activities with multiple school partners will inform ways that CLI can support various organizations to help young learners overcome reading challenges.
Select YES Prep campuses are serving as research sites for this study.
Findings from this pilot will include reports and tools for other districts or community organizations to adopt the AERO model to support children with reading difficulties.
