High-quality care for infants and toddlers is built through intentional practice, thoughtful reflection, and strong, ongoing support. The Infant Toddler Specialist Network (ITSN) Early Leaders in Infant Toddler Education (ELITE) Teacher Program was designed to nurture exactly that. Over an eight-month learning experience, educators participate in research-aligned professional development that strengthens foundational knowledge and leads to meaningful classroom improvements. The program offers the structure, coaching, and collaboration that many early childhood professionals have long needed.
Many teachers enter the field with limited access to specialized infant–toddler training follow-up support. ITSN ELITE was created to close these gaps. Through coursework, live Professional Learning Communities (PLC), individualized coaching, and real-world application, participants learn how to intentionally support early language, social-emotional growth, cognition, and overall development. Each teacher is paired with an ITSN mentor who helps set meaningful goals, analyze classroom videos, reflect on practice, and build confidence with new strategies.
What sets ITSN ELITE apart is its clear focus on measurable outcomes. By the end of the program, teachers often demonstrate increased use of evidence-based strategies, stronger responsive interactions, and a deeper understanding of developmental milestones. Progress is monitored through coaching logs, classroom reflection activities, fidelity checks, and teacher feedback, allowing the program team to continuously refine content and ensure that every session leads to real improvement. The results are more intentional teaching, richer learning environments, and greater alignment with the Texas Core Competencies.
As educators’ knowledge and confidence grows, infants and toddlers ultimately benefit the most. Children experience more responsive interactions, greater exposure to language and literacy, and environments that support curiosity, exploration, and healthy social-emotional development. Families and communities benefit as well, as high-quality early experiences lay the foundation for future success. By the end of their journey, teachers leave with more than new skills. They leave with a supportive mentor, a connected peer network, and a renewed sense of purpose in their work that impacts a generation.
