Laura Welch, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Dr. Welch’s clinical interests include evaluating children with a range of developmental differences (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, intellectual disability, learning disorders, and language delays).
Her program of research focuses on risk (early life adversity, parent stress) and protective factors (self-regulation, positive parenting behaviors) in children and families. She aims to strengthen protective factors that buffer against maladaptive adjustment to promote resilience and better aid clinical interventions. Further, her goal is to increase early diagnosis and intervention for children with neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly among underserved communities, to improve outcomes and reduce the health disparities observed among this population.
Dr. Welch received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her masters and PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University at Albany, State University of New York. Dr. Welch completed her Predoctoral Internship (APA-Accredited) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
