Autism is widely recognized, yet misinformation and stereotypes about what a person with autism looks like persist. Observances such as Autism Acceptance Month play an important role in breaking down barriers to acceptance and encouraging understanding, inclusion, and support for individuals with autism and their caregivers. By learning and talking together, communities can help reduce stigma and shame and foster greater acceptance.
In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, clinicians at the Dan L Duncan Children’s Neurodevelopmental Clinic at the Children’s Learning Institute (CLI), part of UTHealth Houston, donned celebratory t‑shirts and collaborated with UT Physicians to publish a new article. The piece highlights the clinic’s evidence‑based, multidisciplinary approach to autism care, defines autism spectrum disorder (ASD), describes early signs and screening, and emphasizes the value of early diagnosis. It also addresses access challenges and directs families to trusted resources and clear pathways for evaluation.
