Accelerated Early Reading Outcomes (AERO) English Learners (EL) Study
Supporting K-3 Educators to Deliver a Technology-Based Reading Intervention for English Learner Students at Risk for Learning Disabilities.
The goal of this study is to adapt a small-group reading intervention, AERO, to better meet the needs of kindergarten through Grade 3 teachers of Spanish-speaking ELs at risk for reading difficulties. The program is designed to provide instruction in phonological awareness, print concepts, word reading, text reading, oral language development, vocabulary, comprehension, spelling, handwriting, and writing. We will be developing, testing, and seeking feedback on to-be-developed resources designed to better support ELs.

Researchers from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) and the University of Virginia are partnering on this research project. The project will extend over five years in schools across Texas and Virginia.
The Children’s Learning Institute at UTHealth Houston is recruiting two Houston-area school sites with high numbers of English Learners. From each site, three teachers and 15 students will participate for one year.
