The Children’s Learning Institute at UTHealth Houston is seeking to learn more about children’s language development, and needs volunteers for a research study on the unique patterns of English/Spanish development in toddlers born prematurely.
Eligibility includes the following:
- Child is or will soon be 2 years old
- Child was born at least two months early
- Parent lives within a one-hour drive of the Texas Medical Center
- Parent speaks English and/or Spanish
Participants who agree to participate can choose to go to the Children’s Learning Institute office, 7000 Fannin St., Suite 2300, in the Texas Medical Center, or have the study come to their own home.
The institute will ask participants to fill out surveys, record two videos of playful interaction with their children, and conduct a play-based language assessment with their child. The study involves three visits while the child is 2 years old. The first visit will be when they are 24 months old, corrected for prematurity, the second when they are 27 months (corrected), and the third when they are 30 months (corrected).
Those interested can register online. All families will receive compensation for completing each visit, which will last approximately one hour each.
