The Children’s Learning Institute at UTHealth Houston was named the recipient of the Innovations Award, presented by the National Workforce Registry Alliance, for their exceptional work and continued expansion of the Texas Early Childhood Professional Development System (TECPDS).

The honor recognizes both individuals and organizations making exceptional contributions and innovative achievements in early childhood education workforce systems.

TECPDS has developed an innovative system that approves early childhood trainers and their trainings in the state, and offers many tools and resources for professionals to advance their careers in early childhood education.

Tracy Anne Jones, PhD, assistant director for the Texas Early Childhood Professional Development System, accepted the award on behalf of the Children’s Learning Institute in a recognition ceremony held at the alliance’s annual conference in Omaha, Nebraska.

“Research tells us that high-quality early learning experiences can dramatically impact a child’s ability to succeed in school and later in life, and the early childhood workforce is integral. Through strategic partnerships and investments, TECPDS has grown to be the vehicle that enables many of our workforce development initiatives statewide,” said April Crawford, PhD, associate professor and Children’s Learning Institute co-director. “I am delighted that the National Workforce Registry Alliance recognized our innovative efforts to transform TECPDS and support professional development and career advancement for those teaching in the classroom, leading schools, and supporting quality.”

Housed at the Children’s Learning Institute, TECPDS launched in 2013 and has experienced exponential growth and utilization since its inception. It is one of several statewide programs at the institute aimed at supporting the early childhood system, professionals, and families across the state.
